Christopher Robé

I am professor of film and media studies who researches how media activism plays a central role in a wide array of social movements. I have written numerous articles and books like Breaking the Spell: A History of Anarchist Filmmakers, Videotape Guerrillas, and Digital Ninjas (2017) and Abolishing Surveillance: Digital Media Activism and State Repression (2023). I co-edited Insurgent Media from the Front: A Media Activism Reader (2020) with Dr. Stephen Charbonneau.
I am currently researching the practices of street art and graffiti in Belfast, N.I. with Dr. John F. Lennon in navigating its postcolonial inheritances, different strands of conservative media activism, and the work of Raymond Williams in understanding contemporary media activism.
